Before today, read §8.1 and prepare for a quiz over the reading. You don't have to memorize the formulas, but you do need to know what they mean. For example, if the question is to show the work in computing the probability of getting exactly 3 or 4 "ones" in 14 rolls of a fair die, the answer you would have to write is ₁₄C₃(1/6)³(5/6)¹¹ + ₁₄C₄(1/6)⁴(5/6)¹⁰. It is helpful to remember, for example, that ₁₄C₃ = 14!/(3!11!), the binomial coefficient for 3 successes in the B(14, p) distribution.
