This test is due at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, 12/17/99, in Room R.
Even if you have an excused absence (parental excuse or illness), please try to honor this deadline so that grades can be assembled and averaged over the Christmas break. If you have any questions, please send e-mail or leave voice mail at (703) 599-6624.

Honor pledge: By your signature above, you agree to do all your own work on this test. You may ask friends for limited assistance if you’re stuck on a problem, but the work that you write must be all your own. If you receive help from anyone, you must list his name on the blank provided above.

Additional notes: The in-class version of the test originally scheduled for Friday, 12/17, will not be offered. However, class attendance is mandatory that day. We may dismiss early, but not before doing something educational.

Part I (55 points)

Carefully write up the review problems that were assigned on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Spelling, neatness, quality of organization, and completeness of work all count. A random subset of these problems will be graded in detail; the rest will be spot-checked. For your convenience, the problems are listed here:

§7-12 #R1, R2, R4c, R5 (long division), R5 (synthetic division), R7e, R8b, R8c, R10a-d, R11, T1, T3, T8, T10, T11

Part II (20 points)

Convert to fractional exponents and simplify if possible. Beware of "trick questions" such as #1 (check with me before proceeding if you wish).
