construction rules
Please see the main Mathcross
puzzles page for puzzles that conform to the standard rules of American
crossword construction. The puzzles linked above are of lower quality, since
they all violate one or more of the rules. The rightmost column of the table
above contains the following codes denoting rule violations:
A = Asymmetric grid
B = Bars
E = Excessive number of
blocks
I = Interlock
requirement violated
L = Length requirement
violated: some answers are shorter than 3 letters
R = Repeated words
having 2 or more letters
S = St. Albans
references, making puzzle difficult or impossible for outsiders
T# = Tortured answers
(jumbled, backwards, or too obscure): e.g., T3 means there are 3 answers that
are too tortured for a serious publication
