Monthly Schedule

(Honors AP Calculus, Period C)

M 12/1/08

Classes resume. Your assignment over the break is to get lots of sleep.

T 12/2/08

HW due: Read §7-4; write §7-3 #3, 4.

W 12/3/08

HW due: Read §7-5; write §7-3 #8, §7-4 #2, 7.

Th 12/4/08

HW due: Write §7-5 #1, 3, 5, 6. For #6, add part (d) as shown below. Also read through #7 and #8, but do not do them yet.

6d. Use a purely analytic method (i.e., not using the slope field) to find the exact straight-line solution from the family of solutions.

F 12/5/08

Finish your previously assigned problems. Optional HW due (everyone should do this over the weekend for review, if not before): Write §7-5 #7, 8, pp. 341-342 #R1, R2, R3.

In class: Remainder of video and review.

M 12/8/08

Test #7 (100 points, cumulative through §7-5). Review question #R5, if you have time, is an excellent one to look at in preparation for the test. Please note, there will also be several questions from the video. If you missed the video or would like to view it a second time, it will be shown in LJ-302 (Mathplex North) at 7:00 a.m. Monday. It is also available here as a streaming video file. Look for “Hunting the Hidden Dimension.”

All answers to the review questions, except for §7-5 #8, are in the back of the book. If you have any trouble getting the numbers to work out, please send me an e-mail with subject line __C period test. (The double underscore will distinguish your message from spam.)

NOTE: The solution to §7-5 #8 is now available at hwstore.org.

T 12/9/08

HW due: Read §§8-1 and 8-2. No additional written work is due.

W 12/10/08

M 12/15/08

HW due: Read §8-4; write §8-3 #12, 21, 22.

T 12/16/08

W 12/17/08

HW due: Write §8-5 #1, 2, 8, 18, 19, 24.

Th 12/18/08

Test #8 (100 points), cumulative through §8-5.

F 12/19/08

HW due: Do the problems you did not get to from yesterday’s test. You do not need to write out the entire test.

(The mean number of questions left blank was 2.4, or almost 20 points. I agree that the test was a little long, but you also need to work on speed and proficiency.)

If you also check in with me near the west end of the Cathedral following the Lessons and Carols service on Thursday, there is a 5-point bonus. Or, if you do not have time to do written work Thursday night, you can earn 12 points (with no work required) simply for checking in with me after Lessons and Carols.

If you choose to write test corrections., you may write directly on your printout of the test sheets. The problems you wish to redo will be scored at straight credit, provided both of the following conditions are met:

1. On the lower half of the first sheet of your test (below the Always/Sometimes/Never section), write a legible honor statement stating that you worked without assistance (including no access to textbook, Internet, tutor, cell phone, IM, parents, friends, etc.). This statement must be signed in order to be valid.

2. You must keep an accurate time log of your work. Again, place this information on the lower half of the first sheet of your test.
