HW due:
1. Write §10-3 #1.
2. Write §10-6 #8.
Answers to #8: (a) decreasing at 24p in3/min., (b) 96p in3 at t = 3 min., (c) 800p/9 in3 at t = 4 min.
3. Write §10-6 #11.
4. Write §10-7 #11.
5. Write §11-2 #5.
6. Write §11-3 #3.
7. Write §11-6 #11.
8. Compare your answers with the answers provided here or in the back of the
book, and resolve the discrepancies.
9. Purchase an AP Calculus BC review book (Barron’s, Princeton Review,
etc.—the brand does not matter) and bring it to class or to Math Lab this
afternoon for an equipment check.
I realize that this appears to be a lot of work. However, it is just over 1
problem per section for the 6 sections represented on tomorrow’s 50-minute
test. If you wish, you may cut back slightly—for example, by doing only half
of §11-6 #11 (i.e., either the “a” part or the “b” part). The downside is
that you may not have reviewed adequately for the test.
If you fear running short of time on the test, I would recommend reworking
the 7 problems listed above (all parts) repeatedly until you can do them in
less than 50 minutes, including justifying your steps. Tomorrow’s test will
have different problems, of course, but they will be pitched at the same
difficulty level.

Test (100 pts.) on §§10-3, 10-6, 10-7, 11-2, 11-3, 11-6.
Bonus: If you bring to Math Lab
your AP review log and a summary (see example below) of your work during spring
break, I will add some bonus points to your test score.
Example Summary: “I worked a total
of 2½ hours on 5 different days. Although the MC problems were taking me
almost 5 minutes each at the beginning, I was doing them reliably in 2-3
minutes each by the end. I still have difficulty finishing FR problems within
the 15-minute limit. I think I am writing too much on FR (see attached
problem log), and that may be the reason I cannot finish in time.”

HW due: Read §12-2; write §12-2 #Q1-Q10 all, #1. Also,
please do part of your complete test rework
with timings for each problem. (Use a stopwatch or other suitable timepiece.
Timings need not be precise, but try to get them accurate to the nearest half
minute. Also, you may circle the multiple-choice answers, since a bubble
sheet is not furnished.)

HW due: Read §12-3; write §12-2 #4, 6, 8, 9. Your complete test rework with timings will also be
collected today.

|
HW due: Read §12-5; write §12-4 #2, 4, 7. You should be
able to do these by emulating the examples given in the text. (For example, #7
is very similar to Example 3. The main difficulties are adapting the
calculator function appropriately and pushing the correct buttons.)

T 4/10/07
|
HW due: Read §12-6; write §12-5 #9, 12, 13, 14, 15-33 mo3.
The first four of these should go very
quickly.

W 4/11/07
|
HW due: Write §12-6 #1, 4, 7, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19.
Please correct the following severe typos:
1. In #14 on p. 627, the numerator should be n!(xn).
2. In the first green box on p. 616, the second line should say “expansion about
x = a” instead of “expansion about x = 1.”

Quest (70 pts.) on §§12-2 through 12-5.
Important: Be sure to bring your
binder so that it can be spot-checked while you take your quest.
The quest will begin at 7:30 a.m. for those going on the Expo field trip to
the Travis Price home. Everyone else may begin at 8:00 a.m. Class today is
required for everyone except for those with an excused absence.

Optional
7:30 a.m. Re-Quest (get it?) for students unhappy with last Thursday’s quest. However, this one will be scored as a maximum of 60
points out of 70.
Normal class will begin at 8:15 today, in case you need 15 extra minutes
of sleep.
HW due: Read §12-8; write §12-7 #6-14 even, 15, 16.

Review/catch-up day (no additional HW due). However,
why don’t you try starting on a few of tomorrow’s problems to help focus your
questions for today?
Diversity Day will be held during periods D, E, and F.

HW due: Work on previously assigned problems. If you have already
finished those, then work on the 3 problems given below.
Memorization Quiz (10 pts., not droppable) on the “Big Macs” on p. 616
and their intervals of convergence. You will be given a blank sheet of paper
and will be required to write out all 8 with identification (e.g., ex = 1 + x + x2/2! + x3/3!
+ . . .). That means that you need to know what series are in the collection,
as well as what each series equals. You may use sigma notation if you prefer.
The intervals of convergence are  for the first 5. You should analyze the others to
determine their intervals of convergence. Answers are given below as homework
exercises for you to solve.
1. Prove that the interval of convergence for the ln x power series on p. 616 is (0, 2].
2. Prove that the interval of convergence for the geometric power series on
p. 616 is (–1, 1).
3. Prove that the interval of convergence for the arctangent power series on
p. 616 is [–1, 1].

Review
Quest (50 pts.) on all of Chapter
12.
If I were you, I would do as many of the review problems (pp. 650-652) as I
could, since the answers are in the back of the book. Then, I would work on
the Chapter Test (pp. 653-654). To help focus your effort, I will tell you
that several of problems T1, T4, T5, T11, T14, and T15 will be represented on
the Review Quest, perhaps with minor changes.
Note: Be sure to do your studying
before you check the answers for T1, T4, T5,
T11, T14, and T15.

HW due: Please do your studying a day in advance! Reason:
There is a college fair Wednesday night that all juniors are encouraged to
attend. If you studied on Tuesday night, you will need only a quick brush-up
on Wednesday night.
I recommend that you begin your AP review in earnest. Please start filling
out the AP Review Log (requires Excel to
view) and bring it to class each day.
In class: Additional review.

Day of Sleep (no class). Remember that assembly is
at 8:45, however. Important:
Actually use this time for sleeping, either by sleeping in or, if your
morning commute is not adjustable, by going to bed earlier Thursday night.
Make-up for Lenny is in Pubs Suite from 7:50 to 8:40.
On your own time, begin your AP review (day 1 of 5), recording your progress
on the AP Review Log.

AP review (day 2 of 5). Your AP Review Log may be scanned.
Optional HW due: If you would like
bonus points applied to your test from last
Thursday, please re-do the entire test and bring a neat version to class in
your own handwriting. Collaborating and use of outside resources is
permitted, provided you document such
assistance clearly in writing at the top of your paper.
