Monthly Schedule

(MODD, Period D)

Th 12/1/05

Unit Quiz on computation (topics 0x61–0x6F, omitting 0x63 and 0x6A).

F 12/2/05

House Tour. Form VI students should work on project or see me in my office for extra help.

M 12/5/05

No additional HW due.

In class: K+ exercise from last week was scanned.

T 12/6/05

HW due: Read these four articles about one-way hash functions, the application of general one-way functions to public key cryptography, private key (a.k.a. symmetric key) cryptography, and public key (a.k.a. asymmetric key) cryptography. Your HW score will be based on the quality of your reading notes. Approximately half a page to a page is expected. Because the fourth article is long, you should focus on the “History” portion of it.

Optional reading: PKI (public key infrastructure).

W 12/7/05

HW due: Start reading this article about error correction. You may not be able to finish it in one reading, but try to get as far as you can. We will discuss the high points of the article in class.

Th 12/8/05

HW due: Finish yesterday’s reading assignment. There will be an open-notes quiz (handwritten notes only) on the reading. The mathematically complicated parts (matrices, etc.) will not be on the quiz.

F 12/9/05

No school (snow day). Please work on your presentation.

M 12/12/05

HW due: Work on your presentation.

T 12/13/05

HW due: Read this primer on information theory.

W 12/14/05

Multi-Unit Quiz on cryptography, error correcting codes, and information theory.

Th 12/15/05
