Mr. Barsk’s Review Checklist

Dear Students:

Mr. Barsk has taken the time to go through the entire exam, and he has meticulously selected review problems that cover a superset of the exam. Of course, some of the exam questions are worded differently, so that you will still be forced to think to some degree on the exam, and none of the problems are exactly the same as the review problems below. Nevertheless, if you work a good assortment of problems from the list, you should be well prepared.

There are a lot of problems here! It is not expected that you would work all of them, nor even a majority. However, make sure that you are acquainted with all of the topics represented and that you work at least one or two problems from each topic. It is strongly recommended that you read all of the questions, even if you end up working only 20 or 30 of them. Remind yourself of what you would do to tackle the problem, and test yourself by actually tackling some of them! Don’t make the mistake of saying to yourself, “Yeah, yeah, I know how to do all of those,” unless you have actually tested yourself recently. Under the pressure of an exam, strange things can happen to your memory.

Not all topics represented in the review problems are actually represented on the exam itself. (We had to limit the exam to 2 hours, after all!) Specifically, regarding conic sections (circles, ellipses, parabolas, hyperbolas), the teachers have agreed to allow it to be revealed that hyperbolas will not be stressed, although there may be a bonus question on hyperbolas.

It has been my privilege to be your teacher for a small portion of your life. Perhaps I will be able to teach you again before you graduate from St. Albans, if you choose to enroll in MODD (Mathematics of Digital Data) or the STAtistics class. My sincere best wishes to you for success on the final exam and throughout the rest of your high school years.

Sincerely,

Mr. Hansen

Suggestion: Check off the numbered problems as you do them. (Or, shade the square halfway for each problem you have read, and shade the square fully for each problem you have actually solved.)
