Methodology (revised 10/19/2004)

• All surveys will be administered in written form only. Surveys will be distributed by intercept and by placement in the mailboxes of faculty, staff and administrators.
• Subjects will be selected randomly from a list of faculty, staff, and administrators.
• Before approaching subject, make sure that your manila envelope already has several blank survey forms in it, folded lengthwise. Do not remove any of the survey forms until you are ready to submit your subjects’ forms for tabulation.
• Locate subject and ask, “Do you have 2 or 3 minutes to take an election survey conducted for The American Media/AP Statistics Class Poll?”
• If subject says no, try to set up an appointment for a time that is mutually convenient, not more than a day later, or leave survey form in their mailbox with a requested return date. Pick up survey on that date.
• If subject says yes, hand survey form to subject and read the following:
  
  “Your individual answers will be treated confidentially. Results will be tabulated by the AP Statistics class and appear in aggregate form only in an article written by the American Media History class for The Saint Albans News. When you are finished, please fold the survey in half, lengthwise, and hand it to me.”
• At conclusion, remind subject to fold survey in half, lengthwise. Have subject place survey in manila envelope, holding the envelope in such a way that neither you nor the subject can see any of the forms that are already in the envelope.
• Thank the subject for participating.
