Monthly Schedule

(AP Calculus AB, Period D)

M 4/4/05

Old HW due: Finish reading §7.5 if you have not already done so (including reading notes). This is a short assignment, only about 4 pages. Nobody reported the typo that had originally been in the 3/18 calendar entry.

Main HW due: Work on practice AB calculus problems in the Barron’s AP review book or a suitable alternative book. Many such books are available at your local Barnes & Noble or from amazon.com. Good practice problems are also available at the College Board site.

Keep an accurate log on the spreadsheet form provided to you. I am more interested in a little bit of effort on a fairly large number of days than a large effort on one or two days. I am not specifying an exact number of hours or problems that you must work. This is your exam, and working practice problems is the best way to prepare for it.

This assignment is required of everyone, even those who are not planning to take the AP exam. Our scored tests this quarter will consist primarily of AP review tests.

T 4/5/05

Quiz today (10 points) on arc length and work. The parametric version of the arc length formula, though not emphasized in your textbook, may be covered.

HW due: Continue working on your AP review problems. Use the updated question log to record your progress.

FYI: Andrew B.’s younger brother Kevin has made an interesting wager with me. If Illinois defeats North Carolina Monday night in the NCAA championship, Kevin will serve a humiliating duty for me for two days. However, if North Carolina wins, Kevin’s older brother’s class will have a day of rest one day this week.

W 4/6/05

HW due: Continue working on your AP review problems. Use the updated question log to record your progress. The log will be scanned on randomly chosen days, and you should be working at least 35 minutes each night (excluding Fridays and Saturdays).

In class: Review of Chapter 7, including statistics.

Th 4/7/05

Test on Chapter 7, including statistics.

F 4/8/05

Day of rest.

M 4/11/05

HW due: Another 70 minutes of AP review problems, logged on your new log form. Friday and Saturday nights are not required, but Thursday and Sunday nights are. You may, of course, substitute one day for another as you wish.

T 4/12/05

HW due: AP review log (35 minutes).

W 4/13/05

No class for D, E, and F periods (Diversity Day).

Th 4/14/05

HW due: AP review log (70 minutes).

Test (100 pts.) on Topic I from your log sheet. Today’s format will be multiple choice, no calculator. Time limit of 2 minutes per problem (3 minutes for extended time) will be strictly enforced. Scoring: 1 credit for each correct answer, 0 for each omission, ¼ credit penalty for each incorrect guess.

F 4/15/05

HW due: AP review log (35 minutes).

M 4/18/05

Half Test (50 pts.) on Topic II from your new log sheet. Today’s format will be multiple choice with calculator. Time limit of 3 minutes per problem (4½ minutes for extended time) will be strictly enforced. Scoring: 1 credit for each correct answer, 0 for each omission, ¼ credit penalty for each incorrect guess.

T 4/19/05

The Other Half Test (50 pts.): Continuation of yesterday. Because several people did not see question #5, today’s version will have an extra question thrown in that you can miss without penalty. (If you get it right, it will help your score; if you miss it, it will not hurt.)

W 4/20/05

HW due: AP review log (35 minutes minimum, but more is recommended).

Th 4/21/05

Before school: It’s JBAM (Jeopardy Bingo at McDonald’s)!

HW due: AP review log (35 minutes minimum).

F 4/22/05

HW due: AP review log (35 minutes minimum).

M 4/25/05

FBK Day (no school).

T 4/26/05

Test on Topic III (100 pts.). The format will be free response with calculator. Regular-time students will do 3 multi-part questions in 45 minutes; extended-time students will do 2 multi-part questions in the same amount of time. See the College Board website for sample problems.

W 4/27/05

HW due: AP review log (35 minutes minimum). Also, people who took the option of omitting #3 on yesterday’s test must submit it today.

Th 4/28/05

Test on All AP Topics (100 pts.). The format and rules will be the same as on Tuesday, except that this time no calculator is allowed.

This test is optional, meaning that if you take it, the score will count only if it helps you. The best 3 of the 4 practice AP tests will be scored. Today’s test cannot be made up if you are absent; if you miss it or choose not to take it, the zero will simply be dropped from your average.

F 4/29/05

HW due: AP review log (35 minutes minimum).
