(AP Statistics, Period E)

M 5/3/04

AP review, without a quiz. If you have an AP exam in another subject today (either morning or afternoon), you may skip class if you inform me in writing. E-mail is preferred.

 

T 5/4/04

AP Statistics examination, 1:00 p.m., Steuart 101/102 (note room change). Bring calculator, spare batteries, and several sharpened pencils. The multiple choice portion must be in pencil. You are permitted to write the free response portion in pen if you wish.

Class is optional today for those who are taking the AP Statistics exam. If you have a morning exam in another AP subject, you may skip class if you inform me in writing. E-mail is preferred.

For everyone else, today is a normal class day. Several randomly selected students will take the Must-Pass Quiz.

Final group project begins in earnest. Congratulations to Miles, David, Neil, and Nick, all of whom have passed the Must-Pass Quiz.

 

Th 5/6/04

HW due: Read all pages of the handout and make careful suggestions for improvements to all three project methodologies. Your suggestions must be written for full credit.

In class: Work on group project. We will probably not have any time for a Must-Pass Quiz today.

 

F 5/7/04

Guest speaker (scheduled, but postponed until fall because of conflicts with AP Euro exam): Augusto D. Pichard, MD. For the past 21 years, Dr. Pichard has been Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Washington Hospital Center. He is an acknowledged leader in the field of interventional cardiology and has contributed to hundreds of publications and textbooks in the field. According to one Web comment by a former patient, Dr. Pichard performs more than 1,000 angioplasty procedures annually.

Abbreviated class today (attendance optional). Spectators are encouraged to report at about 12:15 p.m. for Jamie’s exciting second attempt at the Must-Pass Quiz.

 

F 5/14/04

Same schedule as Monday 5/10. Raw data must be submitted in Excel format (hard copy) by 3:00 p.m. No electronic submissions will be accepted.

 

M 5/17/04

End of group project. Final project report in hard copy should be submitted by 3:00 p.m. No electronic submissions will be accepted. Please remember that the group leader must submit an additional page with a paragraph recommending a point split and describing what each member contributed to the project. It is not sufficient to say, “Everyone contributed equally.” If the group leader report is missing or inadequate, the group leader will lose up to 10 points from his project score.

 

T 5/18/04

Field trip to National Cryptologic Museum, Fort Meade, MD. Bus will depart at 8:00 a.m. from the service road behind the Martin Gym. We will return by about 12:00, in time for you to finish up E period (if you still need to take the Must-Pass Quiz) and attend all of F period.

Normal dress code is in effect for the entire day. However, you may leave your jacket on the bus while you are inside the museum. You may wish to bring a few dollars for the soda and snack machines and/or gift shop at the museum. Admission is free.

If you do not go on the field trip, you must attend all of your non-STAtistics classes for the day.

If you have notified me of a need for extended time on your project, then I will accept the written version today until 3:00 p.m. without penalty. Don’t forget your group leader report page.
