STAtistics Monthly Schedule

(AP Statistics, Period F)

M 3/3/03

HW due: Read §10.4 and write #10.63, #10.64, #10.65.

T 3/4/03

HW due: #10.73(c) with explanation and #10.76.

HW due: Turn in problem #7 from yesterday’s quiz if you have not already done so.

In class: Review and catch up on old HW.

Th 3/6/03

Test on Chapters 9 and 10. Test questions will come primarily from the two quizzes, class discussions, and assigned HW problems. You should be comfortable using the following STAT TESTS commands on your calculator:

STAT TESTS 1: z test for a mean
STAT TESTS 5: 1-proportion z test
STAT TESTS 7: z confidence interval for a mean
STAT TESTS A: 1-proportion z confidence interval

Here are some resources to help you practice and prepare for the test:

Here is last year’s test on this same material. In a flurry of activity, I also prepared an extremely detailed answer key that I hope you enjoy.

Click here and here for more tests from previous years covering largely the same material. Note, however, that there are some gaps and overlaps in the coverage.

F 3/7/03

HW due: Skim §11.1 (paying attention in class is more important) and try to write #11.6, and #11.10. If you cannot make any headway on these problems, do them over the weekend using the knowledge gained from today’s example problem.

M 3/10/03

HW due: #11.12, #11.28, #11.30. Also, make sure you have clean versions of #11.6 and #11.10 from last Friday to hand in if necessary.

T 3/11/03

HW due: Skim §11.2, skipping pp.633-640. Written assignment: #11.40, plus re-do one of yesterday’s problems (#11.12, 11.28, or 11.30) using full VHA(S)TPC procedures twice—once carefully, then a second time to practice for speed. You need to be able to do these very quickly on the AP exam.

W 3/12/03

HW due: #11.43, #11.44, #11.49, #11.58. Use full VHA(S)TPC procedures for the first three.

Th 3/13/03

HW due: Read §12.1 and write #12.6 and #12.7.

F 3/14/03

HW due (will be collected and graded for 25 points): #12.13, #12.15, #12.18, #12.20(a). Use full VHA(S)TPC procedures for 12.15 and 12.18.

Please don’t take a cut today! Our guest speaker is Mr. Steve Graff (husband of Mrs. Janet Graff, the STA registrar). Mr. Graff works for the College Board and will discuss the application of statistics to the college admissions process.

March 15-30

Spring break. Reading assignment: How to Lie With Statistics. This is a very quick read, perhaps an hour and 15 minutes while you are traveling to wherever you may be going.

If time permits, I will post third quarter grades (by codename) on Monday, March 31.

M 3/31/03

Quiz on How to Lie With Statistics and on Mr. Graff’s talk.
