STAtistics Monthly Schedule

(AP Statistics, Period F)

M 2/3/03

No additional HW due. In class: CFU on binomial probabilities.

T 2/4/03

HW due: Start reading §8.2 and be prepared for a possible quiz on §8.1. You may find the TI-83 Function Summary useful as you prepare for your quiz. (This page is also available under the "AP Exam Review" links on the STAtistics Zone site.)

W 2/5/03

HW due: Finish reading §8.2.

Th 2/6/03

HW due: #8.39, 8.41, 8.44.

F 2/7/03

No school (snow day). Your assignment for today was (and still is) to take the practice test from 1998. After you have taken the test, correct your work using the answer key. Tuesday’s test will not be postponed. Send me an e-mail or voice mail if you do not understand any of the answers.

Brain teaser (send answers by e-mail):

Herbal supplement update: Remember that I asked you to e-mail me concerning your interest level and ideas. If we do this as a class project, we need to develop a methodology that allows me to conduct the experiment upon myself. This will not produce data of high quality, but it will probably give us some indication of whether the supplement works (for me, that is). Using volunteer subjects from the
Upper School is not advisable.

M 2/10/03

HW due: Take the practice test from 2002 and bring all your work from both tests to class for inspection. You may find questions #1 and #2 hard because we have discussed §9.1 and the Central Limit Theorem only in passing; however, the rest of the questions should all be straightforward and are well within the range of what you should feel comfortable answering.

There will also be a HW scan today.

To help you study, here is a complete solution key to the 2002 practice test. There is also a homework solution key for the assignment on binomial and geometric random variables that was due on
2/6/03. Remember that you can send 24-hour e-mail and voice mail to me if you have last-minute questions.

T 2/11/03

Test on Chapters 7 and 8. Note: Unlike the practice tests, this test will be in more of an “AP-style” format. You should definitely use the Barron’s book to help you prepare. Choose practice problems on the subjects of random variables, mean (a.k.a. expected value), variance, standard deviation, binomial distributions, and geometric distributions.

Also today: American Mathematics Competition (AMC), D and E periods. Please ask if you would like to participate.

W 2/12/03

HW due: Begin reading in §9.1. (Read to end of section if possible, but if you are short of time, at least begin the reading.)

Th 2/13/03

HW due: Finish reading §9.1 and write #9.11, #9.13. If time permits, we will hold Music Day during the second half of class.

F 2/14/03

No school (faculty professional day).

M 2/17/03

No school (holiday).

T 2/18/03

No school (snow).

W 2/19/03

Required HW due: Read all of §9.2 and memorize the two rules of thumb. Then write #9.24 and #9.25, and read §9.3 (at least through p.488). It is important that everyone do this homework assignment so that we can avoid falling behind schedule.

Optional HW due: Music Day handout.

Th 2/20/03

HW due: Finish reading §9.3 and write #9.37, #9.40, #9.43.

F 2/21/03

Happy Quiz on Chapter 9. We will spend the first portion of the class finishing the discussion of yesterday’s assignment. There will probably be a point scan.

Sat 2/22/03

Yesterday’s Happy Quiz is now posted.

M 2/24/03

HW due: Read §10.1.

In class: Go over Happy Quiz in detail.

T 2/25/03

HW due: Write #10.24, #10.25, #10.26.

In class: The “one-size-fits-all” formula for m.o.e.

W 2/26/03

HW due: Read §10.2.

In class: Go over HW due yesterday.

Th 2/27/03

HW due: Read §10.3 and write #10.53, #10.54, #10.57.

In class: Go over HW due today.

F 2/28/03

No school (snow). However, I will be contacting each of you by telephone so that I can (1) finalize the AP exam roster for Mr. Andreoli and (2) make sure you can do Monday’s assignment.
