STAtistics Monthly Schedule

(AP Statistics, Period F)

W 9/4/02

First day of class.

Handout #1: STAtistics Class Policies and Required Equipment
Handout #2: Learn the Alphabet
Handout #3: Elements of Good Math HW

Th 9/5/02

Quiz #1 (5 pts.): Alphabet Mastery Quiz.

HW due today: Bring an example (newspaper or magazine clipping preferred, Web page or verbal description OK) of misuse/abuse of statistics from the popular media. If you wish to work with a partner, only one clipping is required per pair, but both people must be able to summarize the clipping verbally. If you prefer to work alone, just bring the clipping.

Additional HW due today: Send an e-mail message with your name (first and last). Please indicate the name by which you wish to be addressed and a pronunciation key if necessary. If you have more than one e-mail account, please send your message from the one that you check most frequently.

In class: STAtistics short course, day 1 of 4. Note: These briefing slides are available under the Blackboard site. Go to the course entitled "Statistics for Pollsters" and view the announcement posted there regarding the PowerPoint file. You should already be enrolled in the course. If you have any problems accessing this information, please contact me or Mr. Verkouteren.

F 9/6/02

Note: Because the Cathedral server was down last night, we will postpone Quiz #2 until Monday 9/9.

In class: STAtistics short course, day 2 of 4. Reminder: Please see the note above concerning how to access these slides under your Blackboard account.

Reading assignment for today: If you have some time over the weekend, please start reading Chapter 1 of the blue textbook. We will tackle the textbook beginning on Thursday 9/12.

All others are expected to meet today’s due date.
