Th 5/2/02 |
Practice AP Exam, Part I (Multiple Choice). This exam will be scored for everyone and will count as 4/5 of a regular test (i.e., 80 points). Questions will be timed and scored using AP rules, although the test will be scaled down because our period is only 50 minutes long. Instead of 35 questions in 90 minutes, you will do 20 questions in 52 minutes (and yes, that means you get a bonus of 2 points). Many questions will be drawn directly from the Barron's review book. Each correct answer will be worth 4 points, but just as in the real AP exam, each incorrect answer will have a 1-point penalty to discourage guessing. An omitted problem carries no penalty, but of course you fail to earn the 4 points in that case. |

F 5/3/02 |
In class: Go over results from yesterday's practice exam and review for Monday's free-response portion. |

M 5/6/02 |
Practice AP Exam, Part II (Free Response). As before, this exam will be scored for everyone and will count for 80 points. Holistic grading rules will apply; i.e., each question will be scored on a 0-to-4 scale in which small errors are excusable unless there are several of them, but any significant error will knock the score down by a full level. On the real exam, you will have 5 questions for which you should budget 13 minutes each and a longer "investigative task" for which you should budget 25 minutes. On our practice exam, you will have 2 shorts and a long (with the long question as a take-home). Scoring for the practice exam will be 20, 20, and 40 points for the three questions. The first two will be marked on a 0-to-4 scale and multiplied by 5 for a maximum of 20 points each. The last question (the "investigative task") will be marked on a 0-to-4 scale and multiplied by 10. Unlike the real AP exam, our practice exam will probably use half points on the last question to soften the blow of making a single significant error. |

T 5/7/02 |
In class: Review yesterday's practice exam. If the grades are complete, you will get your papers back. If they are not complete, you will receive a photocopy of your paper so that we can discuss them in detail and plan ways that you can do better tomorrow. |
