STAtistics Monthly Schedule

(AP Statistics, Period F)

F 3/1/02

HW due today: Think up a new experimental proposal and write problems #10.40, 10.44, and 10.56, using full VHA(S)TPC procedures for the first two. Also, read §10.3 carefully. A quiz is possible. This is a short section and is easy to read, but it contains some of the most crucial information for the entire course. Without reading this section, you would receive an improper statistics education. The two paragraphs at the top of p.566 describe an especially common pitfall; even some supposedly educated and knowledgeable users of statistics fall into this trap.

M 3/4/02

HW due today: Read §10.4 and write #10.72, #10.76. Bring good project ideas (hopefully Alex will be back).

T 3/5/02

HW due today: Revisit #10.72 and #10.76, now that you know more about power and Type I/Type II error probabilities. Please revise your work, or rewrite from scratch if necessary.

W 3/6/02

Review for test; no additional HW due today.

Suggested strategy for test preparation:
(1) study a selection of odd-numbered problems from textbook and check answers
(2) read the section and chapter summaries very carefully
(3) work on old tests (click here and here)

You may omit #11 in the first test and problems #1-8, 13, 15, and 18 in the second test. Actually, you could practice doing #13 and #18 in the second test using z procedures, but the answers would differ somewhat from the "preferred" t procedures. (We haven't studied t procedures yet.) Also, please note that an answer key is available for the second test.

Th 3/7/02

Test on all of Chapters 9 and 10.

F 3/8/02

Day of rest.

M 3/11/02

Go over test answers, discuss project ideas.

T 3/12/02

Required HW due today: Rework project ideas so that we can establish our methodology.

Optional HW due today: Revisit any or all of the problems from last Thursday's test.

W 3/13/02

HW due today: #11.63, 11.64. I will also accept your test revisions today.
