STAtistics Monthly Schedule

(AP Statistics, Period F)

M 10/1/01

HW due today: Proposal and milestones for Project 1.

T 10/2/01

HW due today: Start reading in §3.3.

W 10/3/01

HW due today: Finish reading §3.3 and work problems #3.36, 3.38, 3.40, and 3.52.

Th 10/4/01

Day of rest. Woody will be coming to the Blessing of the Animals immediately after lunch.

F 10/5/01

No additional HW due today, but make sure you have worked through #3.52 in detail. There is something to learn from every part of this problem.

M 10/8/01

No school.

T 10/9/01

No school.

W 10/10/01

HW due today: In the Barron's book, work through as many of the multiple-choice problems as you can in Practice Exam 1.

Th 10/11/01

HW due today: Start reading §4.1. There is too much here to read in one evening, but please get started. The HW load will continue to be somewhat reduced for a while so that you have time to work on your exploratory data analysis project.

F 10/12/01

HW due today: Continue reading in §4.1.

M 10/15/01

HW due today: Please finish reading §4.1.

T 10/16/01

Day of rest.

W 10/17/01

No additional HW due today. In class: Begin exponential, power, and other nonlinear regression. (Extra topic for your enrichment: Rule of 72.)

Th 10/18/01

No additional HW due today. In class: Continue nonlinear regression problems.

F 10/19/01

HW due today: Finish the problem we were working on when time ran out Thursday. In other words, after coding the years on p.184 as year-1800, show in detail how to convert the LSRL fit of log(MBBL) on year to an exponential fit of MBBL on year. You can check your work quickly by running an ExpReg fit using X=coded year and Y=MBBL.

During class: We will cover most of the Handy-Dandy Guide to Curve Fitting and the Judge Jeremy problem.

M 10/22/01

HW due today: Finish the HDGTCF (use the key to check your answers) and the Judge Jeremy problem.

If you have time, you should also start working on the following practice tests to prepare for Wednesday:

1. Big Quiz from Oct. 2000 (an answer key is available, but work the problems first!)
2. Latter portion of Test #2 from Oct. 2000

In class: Review for Wednesday's test.

T 10/23/01

HW due today: Finish working both practice tests (see above). Here are some additional study resources:

Eric Love's study guide for Test #2 (includes some items not on test)
Mr. Hansen's study guide for Tests #1 and #2

In class: Continue reviewing for test.

W 10/24/01

Test on all of Chapter 3, plus §4.1, the Rule of 72, and the first 2 pages of §4.2 (through p.207). Note that a few questions on normal distributions and §3.1 are possible, even though those items were covered on the Sept. 25 test.

Th 10/25/01

HW due today: Finish reading §4.2 (through p.213) and write answers to problems #4.22, 4.23, and 4.24.

Typo alert: Please cross out the italicized word "high" near the middle of p.210 and write "strong" instead.

If nobody shows up today (as was mentioned as a possibility earlier in the week), today will be our day of rest and tomorrow will be a normal class day.

F 10/26/01

HW due today: Finish reading §4.2 (through p.213) and write answers to problems #4.22, 4.23, and 4.24.

End of first quarter!

M 10/29/01

In class: go over 10/24 test, review curve fitting with emphasis on showing adequate work.

T 10/30/01

HW due today: Proposal for Project 2 (survey). In class: Additional discussion of survey design, bias, and §4.2.

W 10/31/01

Day of rest.
