First day of class.

 

Th 9/7/00

HW due: Begin reading in textbook. Also, you must perform one or both of the following Web-based assignments. (1) Visit the Correlation Game, scroll down and type stalbans (all one word) in the pink box, and log a score in the Top 20, or (2) visit the College Board (find the link under Essential Links on the STAtistics Zone page) and send me an email message summarizing the 4 objectives (topic areas) of AP Statistics.

 

F 9/8/00

HW due: Finish reading through p.48 and take Quiz #1.

 

M 9/11/00

No additional HW due today, but be thoroughly familiar with pp. 1-48. In class: Microsoft Excel s.d. exercise.

 

T 9/12/00

Class verbal quiz; written quiz if results are poor. Finish Microsoft Excel exercise.

 

W 9/13/00

HW due today: Prepare for collection and/or recitation: #1.36, 1.40, 1.44, 1.54.

 

Th 9/14/00

HW due today (if not taken during class on 9/13): Computer Facilities Quiz.

 

F 9/15/00

Take Quiz #2 and discuss recent topics (no new material).

 

M 9/18/00

Before class today, you should have read the entire text through p.103. If the oral quiz results are poor, there may be yet another quiz. In-class lecture will parallel the text closely, except for the following additional topic: Chebyshev's Theorem. Work on quiz questions.

 

T 9/19/00

HW due today: Finish up the quiz questions. Papers will be scanned for completeness; questions will be taken beforehand.

 

W 9/20/00

No additional HW due today. Your quiz questions should be complete, showing sufficient work. This is your chance to get fully caught up.

 

Th 9/21/00

HW due today: Review sheet for test. In class, we will cover §3.1 and will work problems.

 

F 9/22/00

Review for test. Before class today, practice playing/learning with the correlation game (first link under Fun Links, below) and read through the end of §3.1 if you have not already done so. You may find the 1998 review sheet to be helpful, although it covers more material than we will be having on Monday's test. Also available to help you study are some challenging study questions.

 

M 9/25/00

Test on Chapters 1 and 2, plus §3.1. If you need more time, please print out the page(s) you need from today’s test and work on the Honor System (no notes, no textbook except for z table, no assistance). If you are taking the test as a make-up, the rules are 50 minutes, Honor System, no notes, no textbook except for z table, and no assistance. Please note that all work done on the Honor System is subject to possible verification by means of a verbal quiz to establish the level of your knowledge.

 

T 9/26/00

HW due today: Complete yesterday’s test if necessary. In class, we will form groups and will begin working on Project #1 (Exploratory Data Analysis).

 

W 9/27/00

HW due today: Be prepared to discuss the challenging study questions that were posted over the weekend.

 

Th 9/28/00

HW due today: Read §3.2 and write out #3.26, 3.28, 3.30.

 

F 9/29/00

HW due today: Read first part of §3.3 (through p.142) and write out #3.31 (show work) and 3.34. Additional HW for D period only: Visit the least squares regression game (see link under Fun Links on the STAtistics Zone) and be prepared to explain what it is doing. For example, what does the red square represent? What do the small squares represent?
