HappyCal Monthly Schedule

(Honors AP Calculus, Period A)

M 4/2/01

Classes resume. HW due: §12-4 #3, 5, 6, 7.

T 4/3/01

HW due: Read §12-5 very carefully and be prepared for a CFU (ungraded Check for Understanding) on the 6 or 8 series you need to know by heart. Some of you also need to get caught up on your old HW (hint, hint).

W 4/4/01

HW due: §12-5 #9, 12, 13, 14, 33.

Th 4/5/01

HW due: §12-5 #15-18 all, 21-29 odd.

F 4/6/01

HW due: §12-6 #1, 4, 7, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 24, 25. There is a typo in #14: the numerator should be n!(xn).

M 4/9/01

HW due: §12-7 #1, 3, 4, 9-17 all.

T 4/10/01

Review for test. Suggested review problems: §12-9 #R2b, R5 all, R7a-i only, R8e.

W 4/11/01

Test on §§11-1 through 11-3, plus 12-1 through 12-5. Note the typo at the top of p.616: "x = 1" should say "x = a" instead. Memorization of all 6 (or 8) standard series on p.616 is required. You may store these in your TI-83 memory, but you should also store these in the 7-pound computer attached to your neck, since part of the test will be without calculator.

Th 4/12/01

"Testlike Quiz": Continuation of yesterday's test to provide an opportunity to bring similar-type questions to a conclusion. (The test was paced to be 100 points in 50 minutes, but because of the changeover time at the 27-minute mark, I am aware that it was difficult if not impossible to finish in time.) To prepare, study the same types of material you studied for the Wednesday test.

HW due today: §12-7 #19, (22), 24-30 all.

Note: Seniors are kindly requested to show up a few minutes before 8:00 so that they can take the "Testlike Quiz" and still manage to slip out in time for the start of Career Day at 8:30.

F 4/13/01

HW due today: §12-8 #3, 4, 7, 8, 10.

M 4/16/01

HW due today: §12-8 #11-19 odd.

T 4/17/01

CFU (ungraded) on §§12-5 through 12-8, including memorization of all 6 (or 8) standard series on p.616. Have all your homework for the quarter, through the end of §12-8, available for inspection if requested.

W 4/18/01

Quiz on §§12-5 through 12-8, including memorization of all 6 (or 8) standard series on p.616.

Because of the error in the first question, we had to scratch the quiz. (Please print the corrected version and work on it as part of your 45 minutes of study tonight.) I apologize deeply for this situation. In recognition of the anxiety that this situation caused, I plan to implement all of the following provisions:

1. One bonus point (typo point) for all who attended.
2. Two bonus points for all who submit a good answer to the extra credit question by midnight tonight via e-mail.
3. Of the 50 points that the quiz is worth, everyone who displays a properly completed log sheet will earn 25 from the outset. In other words, your quiz will be worth only 25 points plus 25 free points. If you do not log your 45 minutes of AP review tonight, your quiz will be worth 50 points as originally scheduled.

If you have other suggestions on how this unfortunate situation can be handled in a fair and equitable manner, please contact me. I apologize again for the confusion.

Th 4/19/01

Quiz (redo) on §§12-5 through 12-8, including memorization of all 6 (or 8) standard series on p.616. See above for information on how this will be scored.

HW due today: 45 minutes of logged review problems. You are encouraged to use problems from yesterday’s scratched quiz toward your 45 minutes.

W 4/18/01
through
W 5/9/01

Review for AP exam. Each night, you are to do a minimum of 10 multiple-choice problems and 1 free-response problem from the AP review books or from the College Board Web site. Record your work and sleep time on your log sheet each night, and bring your log sheet and questions to class each morning. We will have a mixture of individual, small-group, and whole-class activities during class.

Also, be sure to check out the Cram Sheet and the other "Links for AP Preparation" on the HappyCal Zone.

T 4/24/01
and
Th 4/26/01

HappyCal Days at McDonald's on Wisconsin Avenue. We will meet there at about 7:30 a.m. and will drift back to school shortly after 8:00. Those who are not eating breakfast at McDonald's should report for class as usual, although you can come about 10 minutes late without worry.

F 4/27/01

Relaxed arrival time. (Try to be on time, but since this is the last day of the review period, and since parking has been so difficult lately, a few minutes of lateness will be acceptable.)

M 4/30/01

No school (FBK Day).
