HappyCal Monthly Schedule

(Honors AP Calculus, Period A)

Th 2/1/01

HW due today: §9-1 #1-7 all, plus free-response questions from yesterday (#1 without calculator, #2 with calculator). Collaboration is encouraged, but copying is not permitted. Also in class: Optional mini-multiple choice test using questions comparable to those you faced on Tuesday. Since this one will be scored on a "can’t hurt" basis, you may safely go to sleep immediately after College Night tonight if you are happy with how you did Tuesday.

F 2/2/01

HW due today: §9-2 #1-10 all (OK to swap up to 3 of these for problems #28, 56, and 61 from pp.166-171 of the Barron’s book). Also, everyone should do #11 from §9-2 of the Foerster textbook.

M 2/5/01

HW due today: §9-3 #3-48 mo3. The objective is to become fast, and that requires doing a number of problems. After you are proficient, you may wish to do additional odd-numbered problems for practice. Although rapid repeated integration by parts is not on the AP exam, the technique is useful to know.

T 2/6/01

HW due today: §9-4 #1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 12, 19, plus any one of #13-18 (requires a TI-89 or a visit to Room S to use Mathematica software).

W 2/7/01

HW due today: §9-5 #3-33 mo3, (36). (Problem #36 is optional.)

Th 2/8/01

HW due today: §9-6 #5-15 mo5, 18-24 even, 26, 27, 32.

F 2/9/01

No new HW due today. In class: Review techniques of partial fraction decomposition.

M 2/12/01

Day of Rest (A period HappyCal only). I will be available for meeting with students who had trouble with the Chapter 8 test. Everyone else, please use the time productively, perhaps to review sample questions and answers for the AMC 12 examination.

T 2/13/01

Report to Trapier Theater for AMC 12 examination. The competition begins at 8:00 a.m. sharp.

W 2/14/01

HW due today: Visit the partial fraction decomposition Web link, work some of the problems there, and do §9-7 #1, 4, 7, 11, 13, 15; 19, 20, 24.

Th 2/15/01

HW due today: §9-8 #1, 2-10 even; §9-10 #3-21 mo3, 22, 23. Note: We are skipping §9-9 for now.

F 2/16/01

HW due today: §9-11 #1-100 all (orally to decide on an approach), 3-99 mo3 (written). Omit problems having to do with hyperbolic functions for now.

M 2/19/01

No school.

T 2/20/01

Review/catch-up day. Before class today, start studying for the test, get caught up on HW, and work §9-13 #R7e (required). Also do a selection of problems from §9-13 #R1 through R8, R10, and R11. (You know where you need more practice, so work the ones that are most important for you. Check answers in the back of the book.)

There is a misprint on p.742, on the last line of the solution for #R12: 1/s should actually be 1/2.

W 2/21/01

Test on Chapter 9. We voted on Friday 2/16 not to move the test to Thursday. Please start studying early!

Th 2/22/01

No new HW due today. A HW check is possible.

F 2/23/01

Happy Quiz on Chapter 9.

M 2/26/01

HW due: §10-2 #1-4 all, §10-3 #1-9 odd, 13, 15, 16

T 2/27/01

HW due: §10-4 #2, 3, 4, 9, (13). Also, visit the related rates practice problem on the Web.

W 2/28/01

HW due: §10-5 #2, 3, 6, 8, 14.
